Infertility can be a hopeless, lonely place. The deeply personal nature of fertility and outdated societal norms often make family building and its associated struggles a topic that is not openly discussed. The World Health Organization reports that 1 in 6 people experience infertility. You are not alone. During Infertility Awareness Week, April 21-27, we honor the significant efforts made to assist those facing infertility challenges as they strive to expand their families.

Here is some of the work being done:

ASRM and Advocacy

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine, an organization with the mission to lead the advancement of reproductive medicine through evidence-based ethical practice, education, research, and advocacy, has increased their advocacy on legislative matters as more and more fertility related measures are being legislated. Their toolkit gives actionable ways to help support and advocate for safe, accessible, and ethical reproductive treatments.

BabyQuest Support

As an organization founded to help give financial support via grants to families going through infertility treatments, BabyQuest has been supporting families since 2011. This year for infertility week, they’ve announced it’s largest ever group of grants. The BabyQuest foundation will be awarding grants to 25 families. Through their programs, BabyQuest aims to be more than a financial resource, but a source of hope for families.

Efforts from Resolve

This patient advocacy group has been working to help all people facing struggles on family building reach a resolution since 1974. They provide advocacy, emotional support, and information. Through these efforts over 60 million people have better infertility coverage since 2016 and they have defeated 50 anti-IVF bills. Resolve also works passionately to help expand workplace benefits to cover fertility treatments and alternative family building. You can join in these advocacy efforts and join the Resolve movement here.

These are just a few of the organizations helping to bring awareness and support to those going through infertility. Infertility and the need for alternative family building is not shrinking – more than ever families need support to grow their families. As more organizations rally around awareness and push for more accessible and affordable family building, companies can align their values with the growing number of employers offering benefits and coverage for alternative family building. So this infertility awareness week, wear your orange, show your support and solidarity to people facing infertility and take action to actively support them in their family building.
